Yes, there is such a thing like a spider computer, and it’s currently a prototype being worked out by Ericsson. The concept sounds really cool, but it it’s got a number of issues that need to be worked out.

What if you’re in a cramped space? What if you’re outside in daylight? Also, one thing that I don’t think it has going for it is that typists usually like to have tactile response from their input devices.

One the other hand, this is great for creeping out your older, non-computer literate relatives. But that’s prolly just me.
